Abstract

Through this study, we tried to highlight the difference in psychomotor development in the Kindergarten stage, between students who practice academic dance and those who do not. The initial sample was composed of 158 subjects (70.9% girls and 29.1% boys) from Kindergarten between 3 and 5 years old (M (months)=50 and SD=10.29), of which 69 practiced academic dance regularly. The psychomotor evaluation scale for children from 3 to 5 years old (PSM I) was used to analyze three areas of psychomotor
skills (gross motor skills, fine motor skills and body scheme). In addition, the T Student test was used for independent groups, with the objective of comparing the averages of the results in the group that practices academic dance and the one that does not. The results showed that practicing academic dance significantly improved the psychomotor development of students in the initial educational stages, so it would be interesting to include this activity as part of the training and the integral development of the
student body.
