Abstract

This article draws on the author’s own teaching experience as a university professor of future educators, conceiving daily classroom praxis and academic coexistence as a space for constant reflective learning. From this perspective emerges the present article, whose aim is to offer a theoretical reflection on the complexities of exploring the aesthetic dimension of education within the university classroom at a time when sensory alienation and the capture of attention modes predominate. In the first section, some characteristics of today’s anesthetized society are outlined. This is followed by a reflection on the institutional dynamics of the university that condition the ways in which students and faculty are present within the educational relationship. Finally, in a propositional spirit, the article suggests methodologies in which human presence regains central importance—such as Rewriting Between Bodies, Autoethnographic Narrative Research, and Arts-Based Educational Research. These approaches contribute to rethinking university education in terms of rootedness; that is, an education in which the life histories of the individuals involved and the territories they inhabit are taken into account, thereby considering the interrelations among the aesthetic, ethical, and political dimensions of education

Author Biography

  • Noemí Duran Salvadó, University of Barcelona

Noemí Duran Salvadó is a professor in the Department of Theory and History of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Barcelona. Her research focuses on the aesthetic dimension of education and its implications for the ethical and political dimensions of teaching and learning processes. She studies pedagogical devices and rituals for listening and collective creation, the creative exploration of otherness through artistic experiences, and the body as a place of knowledge. She summarises her methodological approach in the book "Reescribir entre cuerpos caminos po(e)sibles. Transformar la educación‘ (Rewriting between bodies: possible paths. Transforming education) (Duran, 2017, Editorial UOC). Her academic career goes hand in hand with social artivism: she is the founder of the artistic company “La In.quieta” (2019) and the cultural space “La Casa Voladora” (2013). The intersection between art and education began early in her educational career: she holds a PhD in Arts and Education (UB, 2012), a degree in Primary Education (URL, 2005), a degree in Audiovisual Communication (UPF, 2005) and a postgraduate degree in Sensory Languages and the Poetics of Play (UdG-Teatre dels Sentits, 2011). Since 2013, she has worked as a researcher (Diverser Research Group) and lecturer at the Faculty of Education of the University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia), a connection that she maintains and which nurtures her dialogue between Southern Epistemologies and decolonial perspectives with Western academia.
